As part of the government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening Islamic unity in the Maldives, 90 projects involving the development of mosques and Islamic centers were carried out over the past year. In preparation for this year’s Ramadan, a target has been set to open a total of 19 mosques, comprising both government-funded and privately built structures. Furthermore, as part of an initiative to air-condition major mosques, four mosques in the Greater Malé Area have already been upgraded. To ensure the proper upkeep of these facilities, 19.4 million Rufiyaa was allocated for mosque renovations last year, with an additional 15 million Rufiyaa designated for the current year. Looking ahead, the government also plans to commence the construction of new Islamic centers in 10 additional islands.
