Fast runner Shamha Ahmed has broken the national record for the women’s 10,000 meter run.

Shamha set this record while competing in the Night of the Tens 2025 marathon in Hamburg, Germany, finishing the race in 40:41.83 seconds.

The previous national record for the women’s 10,000 meter run was held by Mariyam Abdul Kareem. She established that record in 2019 at the South Asian Games, finishing the race in 42:08.62.

The national record for the women’s 5,000 meter run is also held by Shamha. The Maldives’ most successful female runner, Shamha, set the 5,000 meter record at the Long Distance Championship in Wassenberg, Germany, where she won the bronze medal and finished the race in 19 minutes and 41.86 seconds.

Shamha, who has been training in Germany, also secured second place in the women’s race at Runtalya, considered the biggest marathon in the region, held in Antalya, Turkey, last April.
