The Diamond Jubilee Committee, formed by the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), has announced that they have decided to select a football personality from every inhabited island in the Maldives. Speaking at a press conference held by the committee established by FAM to celebrate the 75th anniversary of football in the Maldives, the committee’s chairman, Ali Suzain, stated that they have decided to select a football personality from each island in connection with the 75th anniversary of football in the Maldives. Suzain noted that they will seek the assistance of each island’s council and associations to select the football personality from every island. He mentioned that FAM will create special criteria for this purpose and will provide all necessary support for this initiative.
“God willing, we will find a football personality from every inhabited island in the Maldives. This will be done in collaboration with each island’s council and all the associations on that island. We will provide all the support needed for this. We will create criteria from our end. We will select the football personality representing the 75 years of football from every inhabited island,” said Suzain. He expressed his belief that all islands will participate and cooperate in this effort. Suzain stated that over the past 75 years, every island would have a notable football personality, and he believes this initiative might create some competition in certain islands. He added that some islands might be able to select such personalities without much competition.
“For example, a player’s commitment and the good name they brought to the island might outweigh everything else. It could also be a referee, a commentator, or even a journalist. The island will decide based on the good reputation that person brought to the island through football. We will only check if it meets our criteria,” Suzain explained.
