Over half a million tourists from China so far this year

Statistics from the Ministry of Tourism show that the number of tourists visiting the Maldives from China has exceeded 50,000 so far this year. According to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism yesterday, the number of tourists from China to the Maldives as of the 11th of this month has reached 50,979. These statistics show that 303,447 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, which is a significant increase compared to the same period last year. During this period last year, 279,234 tourists had visited the Maldives.

According to the ministry’s statistics, Russia is second on the list of countries with the most tourists visiting the Maldives. 28,997 tourists have come from that country. The United Kingdom is third on the list with 27,917 tourists, while Italy is fourth with 27,901 tourists visiting the Maldives.

Currently, 172 resorts are operating in the Maldives, along with 15 hotels, 796 guesthouses, and 154 safari vessels. According to the Ministry of Tourism, the government’s target this year is to bring two million tourists to the Maldives.

MMA announces opening hours for Ramadan month

The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has announced its opening hours for the month of Ramadan. MMA stated that during Ramadan and the six days of Shawwal that follow, the authority will be open from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. MMA has also revealed that due to the government closure during the last ten days of Ramadan, the authority will be open on March 27 and 29.

MMA has disclosed that on these days, the authority’s banking services and the service for receiving letters and items will be provided from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM.

MIFCO releases 4.5 million rufiyaa to fishermen

MIFCO has released 4.5 million rufiyaa to fishermen. MIFCO stated that they have paid today for the fish weighed at MIFCO centers from boats on the 11th of this month. MIFCO said that 23 fishing boats had weighed fish during those 11 days. MIFCO stated that they have paid a total of 4,596,429.66 rufiyaa to those boats. Mezzo had served the music industry for more than 45 years.

Islamic Ministry consults with Salaf regarding Ramadan activities

The Islamic Ministry has consulted with Jamiyyathul Salaf regarding some activities conducted during the month of Ramadan. The consultation took place during a meeting held today between the Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and senior officials of Jamiyyathul Salaf.

The Ministry said that the meeting, which took place at the ministry today, was attended by senior officials of the ministry, the President of Jamiyyathul Salaf Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohamed Ibrahim, the President of the Scholars’ Council of the association Sheikh Ahmed Sameer, and other senior members of the association.

The Ministry also said that during the meeting, the Minister assured that the ministry would provide full cooperation for the activities conducted by Jamiyyathul Salaf during Ramadan.

Biography of Qasim’s life released

A biography about the life of Qasim Ibrahim, the founder of Villa Group and leader of the Jumhooree Party, was released last night. This book of over 700 pages was written by experienced journalist Mohamed Jameel. This is the third biography Jameel has written and released after the biographies of President Mohamed Ameen and President Mohamed Waheed. The book and its audio version were launched at a ceremony held at Villa College last night by the guest of honor, Ilyas Ibrahim, the head of Nishan Izzuddeen.

Former presidents also attended the ceremony where Ilyas Ibrahim said that it was an honor for him to have the opportunity to release a book about Qasim’s life. STO is preparing to ensure availability of goods for Ramadan: Shimad

State Trading Organization (STO)’s Managing Director Shimad Ibrahim has stated that STO is preparing in advance to ensure the availability of goods needed for Ramadan without any difficulties.

In a post on “X”, Shimad said that STO is preparing well in advance to ensure that goods needed for Ramadan are available without any difficulties. He also said that they are identifying items that are increasing in price and monitoring market prices daily. “In this regard, the first shipment of onions has now been received,” Shimad said. Providing all essential items at affordable prices to the public during Ramadan has always been a task undertaken by STO. Especially during Ramadan, STO plays a significant role in controlling the prices of items most needed by the public.

Currently, STO is prepared to import food items divided into four categories:

Basic food items: Onions, Potatoes, Coconuts, Dates
Fresh vegetables and fruits: Garlic, Ginger, Lime, Carrots, Oranges, Cabbage, Chili, Green Chili, Pumpkin, Mango, Passion Fruit, Cucumber
Processed foods: Nestle Cream, Cocoa Powder, Baked Beans, Canned Milk
Cooking ingredients: Sunflower Oil, Vegetable Oil, Basmati Rice

“With WAMCO’s service, waste will be managed in Gulhi, solving the waste problem”

Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim has stated that with the commencement of WAMCO’s waste management service in K. Gulhi, an appropriate solution will be found for the waste problem faced by the island. Speaking at the ceremony to inaugurate WAMCO’s service in Gulhi yesterday, the Minister said that Gulhi is already an island where tourism is expanding widely, and tourism will further expand in the future. Therefore, the Minister noted that the waste issue is a major challenge faced by the residents of the island.

The Minister said that with the start of WAMCO’s service, waste collection and management activities will be carried out according to robust principles. He also said that this will strengthen the waste disposal system and will be an important step towards protecting the island’s environment.

“WAMCO has expanded its services to many areas of the Maldives over the past year. In line with the President’s pledge, work has begun to provide this service in K. Gulhi as well,” the Minister said.

The Islamic Ministry is conducting many activities during Ramadan

The Islamic Ministry has stated that, like in previous years, many activities are planned for this year’s Ramadan as well. The Islamic Ministry said that two programs are scheduled to welcome this year’s Ramadan. These are a workshop called “Mindful Ramadan” and a large lecture titled “Welcome Ramadan”. The ministry said that the “Welcome Ramadan” lecture is scheduled to be held at the Male’ Artificial Beach.

In addition, during Ramadan, eight Ihya Forums are planned to be held in Male’, while it has been decided to conduct Ihya Forums in seven cities or islands this year. Additionally, outreach programs are scheduled to be held in Male’ every Saturday during Ramadan, which will include sports activities that interest children, religious counseling, and stalls featuring Qurans and religious books.

Like in previous years, Asr lectures are scheduled to be held in the Male’ area after every Asr prayer during Ramadan, according to the ministry. Furthermore, the Islamic Studio of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs is preparing to broadcast religious programs through the ministry’s social media platforms to raise public awareness and provide religious information during this year’s Ramadan as well. This will include some programs from last year as well as completely new programs, they said.

PNC wins 33 seats; President congratulates successful candidates

The President stated that out of the 37 seats in the by-elections, PNC secured 24 seats uncontested and won 9 seats through elections, totaling 33 seats for PNC. He mentioned that in the by-elections, PNC won 1 Atoll Council President seat, 1 Island Council President seat, 2 Island Council Member seats, and 29 seats in Women’s Development Committees.
