To ensure the safety and security of NATO member countries, British warplanes have begun monitoring Polish airspace to strengthen strengthen defensive measures in the alliance’s eastern flank countries. NATO decided to bolster the defense of its eastern member states following an incident where military drones entered Polish airspace. Two days ago, when military drones entered Polish airspace, the country’s military attacked, defended against, and shot them down. This is the first such incident since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war. The war between Russia and Ukraine began on February 24, 2022.

In a statement, British Defense Minister John Healey said that this operation sends a clear message that NATO will not back down in defending the airspace of its member countries. According to Russia, drones entered Polish airspace at a time when Russian forces were launching attacks on Ukrainian targets. Russia also stated that there was no intention to attack Poland. Poland believes that Russia deliberately sent military drones into its airspace. Poland characterized this as an act carried out to test the capabilities of Poland’s and NATO’s defense systems.

Consequently, NATO has decided to launch an operation called “Eastern Sentry” to strengthen the defense of its eastern flank member countries. Under this operation, work has begun to enhance defensive measures from the northern Baltic countries to Romania and Bulgaria in the south. As part of this, NATO has decided to send additional military aircraft and air defense systems to these countries, establish more military bases, and deploy additional troops.
