Manchester City has decided to pay their midfielder Rodri a salary of three hundred thousand pounds per week. Rodri was the world’s best player last year. He was also the best player in last year’s Euro football tournament. He played the most crucial role when Spain won the Euro. However, he got injured while training with the club to start the past season after that victory. With this, the club decided to increase the salary of the player who missed the entire past season, even though there are two years remaining in his contract with the club. City acted so quickly because of Real Madrid, the wealthy Spanish club, showing interest in acquiring Rodri. Real wanted Rodri because two important players who played in their midfield retired in the past two seasons. They are Croatia’s captain Luka Modric and Germany’s midfielder Toni Kroos.
City has been paying Rodri a salary of two hundred thousand pounds per week. By raising this amount to three hundred thousand, he will become the second-highest-paid player at City. The highest-paid player is Norway’s forward Erling Haaland. He is paid a salary of half a million pounds per week. There is another reason why City wants to retain Rodri. That is because captain and midfielder Kevin De Bruyne will leave the club after the upcoming Club World Cup. Also, the experienced aging midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is now more of a player who starts from the bench rather than in the first 11 of the team.
