A new batch of MVR 100 banknotes has been printed and brought into the country following a shortage in the circulating supply within the economy.

In a statement released today, the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) confirmed that a fresh stock of the MVR 100 denomination, part of the “Ran Dhihafaheh” banknote series, was received today to replenish the authority’s diminishing reserves.

The MMA clarified that the existing MVR 100 banknotes currently in use will continue to remain in circulation alongside the newly introduced stock.

A similar measure was taken in early last year when the MMA commissioned the printing of new MVR 100 notes due to low stock levels, which were subsequently put into circulation in January.

The “Ran Dhihafaheh” banknote series was officially launched in January 2016. Unlike previous currencies, this series is designed to be more secure, durable, and user-friendly, incorporating modern features.

Key security elements of the “Ran Dhihafaheh” series include serial numbers that fluoresce under ultraviolet (UV) light. Additionally, the denomination value appears within a specific box under UV light, a feature that remains invisible under ordinary lighting conditions.
