President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government has restarted the reclamation of Rasmale, which is planned to be developed by reclaiming Fushidhiggaru lagoon, and the work will be tripled. He added that this year will be the year with the highest number of housing projects implemented in a single year.

Speaking at a meeting with the residents of K. Gulhi yesterday evening, the President said that the Rasmale project is the project that will bring the biggest solution to the housing issue in the Maldives from a single area. He added that this will be the largest project where the most people will be settled in one land mass. “The actual land reclamation is now underway. God willing, by mobilizing additional dredgers from some other companies, we are working to start many projects, work from many parties there at once,” the President said.

Therefore, the speed of that project will increase two to three times, the President said. Noting that the project did not progress at the desired speed last year, the President said that difficulties arose in the process of solving the many issues that needed to be resolved within the economy inherited by this government.

“However, it has now reached the stage where work has begun through that. So this project will be a place that will provide favorable opportunities for housing issues and economically in various matters for this region, this atoll, and the whole Maldives in general,” the President said.

The President said that he is very confident about that project, and it will be of great benefit to all the people of the Maldives and this region. “God willing, this year that is beginning will be a year of housing, we will make 2025 a year of housing. Within this month of this year, we will announce to find parties to carry out all the housing projects that have been allocated in the budget, that I have promised, to be carried out in the islands, all the housing projects set in the campaign, in the manifesto, to find parties who will actually do the work, this January,” the President said.

The President said that announcements will be made this month to find contractors to do this work. “Through the order in which work is assigned to different parties, God willing, this year will be the year with the most work done practically in solving the housing issue in one year. Along with that, it will be done in the coming years in islands where land has been reclaimed and space has been increased,” the President said. The President said that he wishes for the people to think about the future with hope and confidence. He added that this year will be a practical year of development and that development work will be carried out practically.

“Especially in the housing sector, many people will receive easy housing loans through the loan scheme we announced. Practically, as I mentioned, projects will start to be implemented. Along with that, in other areas, education sector, health, sports and various social sectors, and various urban development projects and even the economic sector, practically, God willing, this year will be a year where many works will begin to bring development to the people,” the President said.
