The “R. Veterans Futsal Tournament” for former players has been scheduled for the first of next month. Speaking to PSM News about this tournament, which is being organized specifically for former players from North Maalhosmadulu Atoll, the President of Rasmadhoo Council of North Maalhosmadulu Atoll, Mohamed Asif, said that the purpose of holding such a tournament is to bring former players back to the field and maintain the enthusiasm for sports. Additionally, one of the objectives of this tournament is to showcase the skills of former stars to the current youth and to revive and nurture the spirit of sports among the younger generation.
“Former players might not have played futsal before. However, we are working to acclimate these players to this sport and bring them back to the field. They are very skilled people,” Asif said regarding the tournament that is being prepared to be held for the first time. The tournament, which will take place in Rasmadhoo from July 1st to 10th, will feature nine teams competing, and the Council President has stated that the tournament has received a great response. “11 teams from 15 islands of R. Atoll registered for the tournament. However, due to various reasons, 2 teams have withdrawn their names. It can be said that the tournament received a very good response,” Asif said.
This tournament, which is specially organized for the age group of 39 years and above, allows each team to include one player who is 35 years or older. For the “R. Veterans Futsal Tournament 2025,” the champion team will be awarded a cash prize of MVR 20,000 (Twenty Thousand Rufiyaa), while the runner-up team will receive MVR 10,000 (Ten Thousand Rufiyaa).
