State Minister for Homeland Security and Technology, Ahmed Siddiq, has stated that the recent amendment to the Drug Act, which mandates the death penalty for drug traffickers, is a crucial step toward safeguarding future generations. This amendment, ratified last December, is set to take effect on April 6th. Under this law, individuals found guilty of trafficking drugs exceeding a specific quantity will face the death penalty.
Siddiq highlighted that this decision resonates with the public, as the drug epidemic has led to a rise in theft and robbery within the community, while also causing the breakdown of familial ties. The government aims to build a drug-free society through such stringent penalties, alongside strengthening the rehabilitation system to find a lasting solution to this issue.
