
The President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu participated in the flag-raising ceremony held in connection with this year’s Independence Day. While flag-raising ceremonies were held in various parts of the country, the ceremony in Male’ took place at the Republic Square. The ceremony was attended by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, ministers, and senior government officials. Long-serving state employees, members of parliament, and school students also participated in this ceremony.
The national flag-raising ceremony for Independence Day was held at 6:00 AM today. After raising the flag, a special prayer was offered. Following this, the President exchanged Independence Day greetings with the attendees. Flag-raising ceremonies in other islands were held at the main government office of each island. Maldivian embassies in foreign countries also held flag-raising ceremonies.

While the official Independence Day activities began with the flag-raising ceremony, many events are scheduled for this evening. These include cultural and sports activities, as well as cultural performances by school children, to be held in the Republic Square area. The Maldives Independence Day is celebrated every year on July 26th. This day is observed to commemorate the day when the Maldives gained independence from British protection.
