Ahmed Mahloof, Laiba Ahmed Makhloof’s father and former Minister of Sports, has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s congratulations on Laiba’s historic achievement in an international badminton tournament is a great joy and encouragement for Laiba and her family. Mahloof said this in a post shared on social media. Acknowledging the successes in international and national tournaments, Makhloof expressed gratitude to President Dr. Muizzu and Minister of Sports Abdullah Rafiu for including Laiba in the government’s Artha program for her further development.
Mahloof said that with Allah’s will, Laiba will work towards achieving further success. The rising badminton player Laiba has won 3 gold medals competing in the Armenian Youth Open 2025 held in Armenia. The 12-year-old Laiba won gold medals in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events at the Armenian Youth Open 2025. Highlighting this, the President shared a post on social media congratulating Laiba, stating that her achievement is a great honor for the Maldivian nation. This is the first time the Maldives has won a gold medal in the junior category of an international badminton tournament. The President said that Laiba is an example for every child who is working towards a good future in sports.
“The success Laiba has achieved in this international junior badminton tournament is a very great honor for the Maldivian nation. And this is an example for every child who is working towards a good future in sports,” the President said. The President also wished Laiba further success and gold rankings, and encouraged her to move forward with courage and skill. This is the first time Laiba has won gold medals in an international tournament. She has been competing in international tournaments since 2022. Participating in European tournaments, Laiba has won 5 silver medals and 15 bronze medals.
