President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu visited the Thalassemia Center today in response to concerns raised by thalassemia patients and their families regarding the center’s services. Last night, thalassemia patients and their families protested, calling for the resignation of Maldives Blood Service (MBS) officials. The President visited the center within 24 hours of the protest escalating.
The President arrived at the center in the morning. During his visit, he gathered information about the current issues at the facility.

Accompanying the President were Health Minister Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim and Finance Minister Moosa Zameer, who also visited the Thalassemia Center. Thalassemia patients and their families protested due to damaged filters at the Thalassemia Center, which they claim is causing an increase in blood packet wastage. This issue is also occurring in other islands.
The protesters also called for the resignation of MBS Public Health Coordinator Faisal Ibrahim and Health Ministry State Minister Aminath Shiuna.
