
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that Sri Lanka and Maldives can work together for sustainable development to bring prosperity and progress to the people of both countries. The President made this statement while speaking at the state banquet held in honor of the Sri Lankan President, who is currently on an official visit to the Maldives. Speaking at the state banquet, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that Sri Lanka and Maldives are two countries whose people have maintained a very close relationship since ancient times. While many Maldivians live in Sri Lanka for various purposes, the President also said that with the hospitality extended by Sri Lanka, that country has become like a second home for Maldivian citizens.
The President said that Sri Lanka has always been providing assistance for the development of the Maldives, noting that significant support is being received from that country in the fields of education, health, and human resource development. “Relations have further strengthened in tourism, digital technology, security cooperation, and even culturally. Today, collaborative efforts have expanded in economic and social spheres. And now, both countries are aligning their work to keep pace with the changing world,” the President said. The President stated that due to the agreements established between Sri Lanka and the Maldives, progress and development will be facilitated in various important sectors for the Maldives. He also expressed confidence that through the joint efforts of the two countries, sustainable development can be achieved.
The President concluded his speech by wishing for the continuation of the relationship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka in its current state, and expressing his wishes for happiness and prosperity for the people of Sri Lanka. This This year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, and this is also the first visit of Sri Lankan President Dissanayake to the Maldives.
