Following the President’s ratification of the 9th amendment to the Employment Act, employees returning to work after maternity or paternity leave are now entitled to two 30-minute paid breaks daily to attend to childcare responsibilities until the child reaches two years of age. Previously, this entitlement was only available until the child turned one.

Furthermore, the amendment mandates a two-week notice period for the termination of employees who have been in service for less than one year. It also grants the Cabinet the authority to exempt certain businesses from the quota fees required for hiring expatriate labor. Additionally, under this new amendment, International Workers’ Day has been officially designated as a public holiday.
