President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has assured that numerous works will be carried out in the field of sports. His Excellency provided this assurance during his ongoing visit to the southern atolls of Miladhunmadulu (Noonu Atoll), specifically during his visit to Kendhikulhudhoo island in that atoll, while addressing the island’s residents. In his address, the President stated that a multitude of projects will be undertaken in the sports sector, including the construction of fitness recreation centers, renovation of futsal courts, and the provision of all necessary facilities for athletes, with efforts underway to commence these works within this year.
“Work will also be done in the sports sector. I have stated that I will indeed undertake many things in the sports sector. This includes building fitness recreation centers, and in addition to that, renovating the damaged futsal courts. In summary, for the youth, and for all who participate in sports, the work related to sports facilities that are scheduled to begin this year, including the work on fitness centers, and, God willing, as mentioned, the reconstruction of futsal courts – we will do these things,” the President stated in his speech.
Completing stalled sports projects and handing them over to the public is a pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. In line with this, the government began the work of completing these projects last year, and a large portion of them have now been completed and handed over. To complete these works as quickly and robustly as possible, the government has, in May of this year, assigned the completion of some stalled sports projects to Fenaka Corporation, Road Development Corporation (RDC), and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
Under the Sports Act, which was ratified in May of this year, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has also decided to establish a fund named “National Sports Fund” with the aim of increasing Maldivian athletes, promoting and developing sports, and empowering the Maldivian sports family.
