
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the construction of 50 housing units will begin in Mulaku, Meemu Atoll this year, and that the government will carry out many other development projects for the island. The President said this during his speech at a meeting with the people of Mulaku, Meemu Atoll. The President assured that he would fulfill the promises made during the presidential campaign and those made during his last meeting with the island’s residents. He also mentioned that since Mulaku is a fishing community, many projects have been planned for that sector. As such, the President said that a cold storage facility would be established in Mulaku with foreign aid.
The President said that a project to build an ice plant in Mulaku is also planned, and work will begin once the council allocates land for it. He also stated that to solve the difficulties faced by fishermen in the island and the region in obtaining fuel, arrangements have been made to provide fuel at STO rates, and a special facility for this purpose will be completed and services will commence early next year. Noting that the project to expand Mulaku harbor to 1400 feet has begun, the President said that a jetty will also be built on the north side of the island. He also mentioned that preparations are underway to start a project to protect the eroding areas of the island.
“I assure you that the road tarring work will be completed within the next 4 months. The construction work to convert the health center into a hospital is also starting now,” said the President. The President has also stated that work will begin this year to solve the housing problem on the island. “We will start the practical work of 50 housing units this year. This is just the beginning. More projects in this area will come to the island,” the President said. The President said that the work on the Fitness and Recreation Center in Mulaku will also be completed within the next 4 months. In addition, the President said that work will begin next year to develop the football ground for night games and to develop a handball court specifically for women. Furthermore, the President said that the electricity problem will be solved and the extension building currently under construction at the school will be completed before the next academic year. The President said that a vehicle for the police service and an ambulance for the island’s health center will also be added this year.
At the meeting held with the people of Mulaku, an agreement was signe agreement was signed to award the contract for the construction of a 30-ton ice plant on the island. The agreement for the construction of the 30-ton ice plant in Mulaku was signed by the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Ahmed Shiyam, and the Director of Three Way Enterprises Private Limited, Dr. Ikleel Shareef.
