
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has conveyed his deepest sympathies to the family of a Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) employee who passed away following a medical emergency at the Male’ Commercial Harbor.
In a message shared on social media, the President expressed his profound sadness over the tragic passing of the young staff member while on duty. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family as well as to the management and staff of MPL.
The employee has been identified as Amin Abdul Hameed. According to MPL, Amin suffered a seizure while on duty and was immediately rushed to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for emergency medical intervention. He passed away while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
MPL further clarified that Amin fell into the water at the harbor’s western jetty area after experiencing the seizure. Following the incident, the company’s Health and Safety Department’s emergency response team arrived on the scene promptly and transported him to IGMH by ambulance.
At the time of his passing, the 30-year-old was serving as a Senior Deckhand in the Marine Craft Section of MPL’s Fleet Service Department. He had been an integral part of the company since joining in 2020.
