
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that his endorsement for the upcoming Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections is exclusively reserved for candidates representing the People’s National Congress (PNC).
Speaking at a campaign event for the Hulhumale’ South constituency, the President dismissed rumors suggesting he supports candidates from other political parties or independent contestants, labeling such claims as false. Emphasizing his respect for the party system, the President highlighted the significance of securing victories for candidates from the ruling PNC to ensure effective governance.
In the elections scheduled for the 4th of next month, over 294,000 individuals are eligible to vote. The PNC has fielded the highest number of candidates for this election. Additionally, a public referendum will be held on the same day to gather citizens’ views on the feasibility of conducting different elections simultaneously.
