
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Zamath Ahmed Waheed of Mala, GDh. Thinadhoo to the membership of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission. Zamath Ahmed Waheed was appointed to this position after her name was submitted to the People’s Majlis and received approval, as per Article 6 (a) of the Broadcasting Act. The President’s Office publicly opened applications for the position following the end of Commission member Aminath Ameena’s term on the 14th of this month. From among those who applied, the President sent the names of 6 qualified candidates to the Majlis.
Among the names sent by the President was Moosa Rizwan, who was appointed to the Commission last month after receiving Majlis approval. His name was removed during the committee stage, and the remaining 5 candidates were interviewed. The Committee on Independent Institutions gave over 75% marks to 3 candidates. In the Majlis session vote, Zamath was unanimously approved for appointment by all 56 members who voted. Members are appointed to this Commission for a 5-year term.
Zamath completed a Master of Arts in Journalism from the Islamic University of Maldives in 2022. She has been actively involved in media and media management since 2006. With Zamath’s appointment to the Broadcasting Commission, there will now be 7 members on the Commission. They are Commission President Safa Shareef, Vice President Shifla Ibrahim, and members Aminath Nuzha, Mohamed Abdullah, Moosa Rizwan, Aminath Saraahath Izzath, and Zamath Ahmed Waheed.
