President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that work will commence next year to develop a sports complex in Villingili. The President made this statement during his address to the residents of Villingili, as part of a program initiated to meet all residents of Malé. President Muizzu stated that providing sports facilities for youth across the entire Maldives is a very important policy of the government. He added that given the large population residing in Villingili, it is essential to have sports facilities built there.
“The most important and largest project to be implemented in the coming year will be the establishment of a sports complex, which will be developed as a center for indoor sports with a seating capacity of twelve hundred people,” the President said. President Muizzu further stated that along with upgrading the existing football field in Villingili, all necessary steps would be taken to transform the current field into a FIFA-standard stadium.
“Transforming the football field into a FIFA-standard field is also underway. We have included many such initiatives in our budget, many things in the field of sports,” the President noted. The government has decided to carry out important projects in the field of sports in Malé next year, similar to those planned for the atolls.
