The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has announced that the materials needed for the development project of the Kunburudhoo football field in South Ari Atoll have been sent to the island. In a post on X, RDC stated that materials needed to expand the Kunburudhoo football field and complete unfinished work have been sent to the island, and the process of unloading these items is currently underway. At the end of March, the government assigned three companies to complete 77 sports projects. Of these, RDC was tasked with 23 projects. These works include the construction and renovation of sports fields, outdoor gyms, and fitness and recreation centers.
While RDC has provideDC has provided the materials needed for the development of the Kunburudhoo football field, these include goals, lights, and turf, according to Kunburudhoo Council President Mohamed Azmi, who spoke to PSM News. Highlighting the unfinished work on the island’s football field, Azmi said that the remaining tasks include leveling the sub-base of the field, laying the turf, and painting.
Noting that the Kunburudhoo field project is a long-delayed work, Azmi said that the field has been in this condition for about ten years. He expressed concern that the island’s youth have been unable to use the field due to this situation. In line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to complete unfinished sports projects within two years, Azmi said that RDC has stated the Kunburudhoo field work will be completed in approximately three to four weeks. Azmi described this as a long-standing hope for the youth and characterized it as progress for young people.
“In reality, this is a big hope for the youth. The island’s youth have been without a place to play football for about ten years,” Azmi told PSM News. While the government has assigned three companies to work on 77 sports-related projects, it is estimated that these works will cost 204.5 million rufiyaa.
