Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Adam Naseer Ibrahim, has announced that preparations are underway to begin the practical work of collecting memories and stories from elders this year. The Minister said that many preparations for this are currently in progress. In an interview with PSM News, Minister Adam Naseer Ibrahim stated that they are making extensive preparations to start the practical work of the project to collect elders’ memories, or oral history, within this year. He noted that they are currently working on bringing related knowledge to the Maldives and translating it into Dhivehi.
“Collecting information or memories from elderly people means gathering information in a specific way, following certain scientific principles, with questions asked and meetings held over different days. For instance, if we take about 10 people aged 50-60 from each island in the Maldives, we can learn a lot about how the country was during a certain period,” the Minister said.
Minister Adam Naseer Ibrahim said that once the practical work of collecting elders’ memories is completed, it will be possible to understand the principles, methods, and robust characteristics that ancestors followed in various matters. He noted that this information will also increase the number of things that can be done for the future.

Additionally, the Minister mentioned that preparations are underway to begin the practical work of creating uniform frameworks this year. He said that work is being done to find ways to determine what constitutes Maldivian artifacts and to prepare the necessary documentation, emphasizing that this is an important effort to record various information about the Maldives.
The Minister stated that this work is a significant effort to identify Maldivian skills, characteristics, and their best aspects. Therefore, he said they are preparing to officially begin the practical work of these projects this year and implement them across the entire country.
