A key strategic policy of the government involves consolidating populations from smaller islands into more developed hubs to ensure the equitable distribution of resources and services. In line with this vision, the relocation process for the residents of HDh. Hirimaradhoo, M. Raiymandhoo, and V. Rakeedhoo is currently in progress.
To facilitate the relocation of Hirimaradhoo residents to Hanimaadhoo, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has been contracted to complete the necessary housing infrastructure within an 18-month timeframe. Similarly, the construction of 44 housing units is underway to accommodate the migration of Raiymandhoo residents to K. Thulusdhoo. However, the process regarding Rakeedhoo has encountered setbacks due to a lack of cooperation from the local island council.
Under this relocation framework, the government commits to providing a three-bedroom house along with financial assistance in exchange for every inhabited residence. This policy is designed to empower smaller communities by granting them improved access to high-quality education, advanced healthcare services, and broader employment opportunities.
