An investigation has been launched into a case where cigarette cartons were discovered when Customs checked garbage bags that were being taken out of the Velana International Airport (VIA) Departure Terminal.
A police officer is suspected in this case. Customs has now detained him.
Neither the police nor Customs have provided further details about this incident.
The Customs media official told “Vaguthu” that additional information can only be provided once the investigation is completed.
Recently, another case has surfaced involving the illegal removal of cigarette cases from two bonded warehouses. The companies operating these two bonded warehouses have been heavily fined in this case.
