As part of ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and security, the Maldives Police Service has announced that over 470 inspections were carried out across various areas of Malé during this past weekend. This initiative, spearheaded by the Gang Crime Suppression Department, focused specifically on monitoring and patrolling locations identified as high-risk areas or “crime hotspots” within the capital.
According to the police, identified crime-prone areas in Malé were inspected 473 times, during which 77 individuals were questioned. In addition to these measures, the operation included the inspection of 8 vehicles, 7 of which were subsequently towed. The security operations also featured a significant foot patrol component, with officers conducting over 8 hours of pedestrian patrols to maintain a visible presence on the streets.
These efforts are part of a broader strategy to work closely with the community and increase police visibility. This specific operation, coinciding with the New Year and the weekend, aims to facilitate a peaceful and secure environment for the public.
Beyond Malé, similar security activities are being conducted across the atolls. These initiatives include public awareness programs on safety and security, as well as outreach efforts specifically tailored for the business community.
