The People’s National Congress (PNC) has announced that candidates have registered for 97% of constituencies in the upcoming primary election, which will determine the party’s candidates for the local council elections. The PNC opened the opportunity for registration on the 1st of this month.
The PNC anticipates that this marks the highest number of candidates from a single party ever to contest a local council election. Ibrahim Falah, the PNC’s Local Council Election Campaign Manager and Parliamentary Group Leader, stated that such a high number of candidates has not been seen in a local council election since 2008. He highlighted the significant interest received during the two-week registration period.
The PNC primary is scheduled to be held on the 27th of this month, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The party has indicated that the process of verifying candidate eligibility is currently underway and an announcement will be made soon. With the party’s current membership standing at 70,000, the PNC projects that this primary will boost membership to 75,000.
