The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced that a significant portion of the pavement construction under the North Harbor road redevelopment project in Malé has been completed.

As part of the efforts to modernize the roads in the North Harbor area, the installation of cables on the building side has now been fully completed. The redevelopment of this area commenced on December 9th.

MTCC further stated that land reclamation work to widen the road is currently underway, along with the installation of anchor blocks. While 85 percent of the pavement construction on the building side is finished, the company expects to complete the remaining work by the end of this week. Additionally, 45 percent of the stormwater drainage system has been completed, and work on cable junctions has begun.

Under this project, a 250-meter stretch extending from the Malé Local Market area to the North Harbor will be developed with asphalt. The project also involves extending the quay wall six meters outward to widen the road.

MTCC highlights that once completed, the North Harbor area will feature modern, two-way roads that are safe for pedestrians and equipped with effective solutions for flooding.

The overall Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project aims to upgrade a total of 1,088 meters from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the North Harbor. The first phase, covering 140 meters, has already been completed. The government believes these improvements will alleviate congestion in Malé’s commercial port area and significantly facilitate the transportation of goods and general travel.

MTCC aims to complete the second phase of the road construction and open it to the public before the beginning of the month of Ramadan.
