Passport and ID card services have been officially launched in Alif Alif Atoll. These services were inaugurated by the Minister of Home Affairs and Culture, Ali Ihsan, during a meeting held for President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to meet with the residents of Rasdhoo. Providing ID card services from every inhabited atoll or administrative island is an important policy of the government. The Department of National Registration (DNR) stated that with the launch of ID card services at the Alif Alif Atoll Council, residents of the atoll will now be able to obtain ID cards while remaining on their islands. The DNR also noted that this would expedite and strengthen the ID card service.
According to the DNR, this service is currently available in 28 islands. Their goal is to start printing and issuing ID cards in all atolls before the end of this year. While ID card services have been introduced in Rasdhoo, passport services will also be available this year. As part of the effort to expand this service nationwide, which began last November, the service has now been launched in 13 atolls. As passport and ID card services continue to be provided in various regions of the Maldives, these services for Maldivian passports and ID cards have also been initiated in Malaysia.
