The match between Crystal Palace and Chelsea in the English Premier League ended in a goalless draw. In this match played at Chelsea’s home ground, the champions of the recently concluded FIFA Club World Cup, Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze scored a goal, but after reviewing the video, the referee decided it was not referee decided it was not a valid goal. Both teams displayed competitive play in this match, where Chelsea’s coach Enzo Maresca gave opportunities to newly joined players.

In the 13th minute, Eze scored from a free kick 20 yards out, but the referee’s decision was based on Palace’s Marc Guehi standing within one meter of Chelsea players’ wall. This rule, which has been in effect since 2019, has rarely been enforced by Premier League referees. In this match, Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta and Maxwel Cornet had good opportunities to score but failed to capitalize.

Chelsea’s most dangerous attack came in the second half from their new signings, Brazil’s Estevao Willian and Liam Delap, along with Andre Santos. Despite Chelsea spending £250 million to strengthen their forward line for this season, they were unable to showcase an impressive performance in their first match of the new season.
