
The Maldives Zakat House has announced that MVR 5.4 million was collected as Zakat al-Fitr during the first 15 days of Ramadan. According to the Zakat House, a total of MVR 5,482,171 was received between February 18 and March 4.
Payments for Zakat al-Fitr can be made through various digital platforms, including DhiraaguPay, m-Faisaa, FaisaMobile, BML, FahiPay, AvasApp, and the Bandeyri Portal. Additionally, for those unable to make online payments, arrangements have been made to accept cash contributions.
The designated rates for Zakat al-Fitr are as follows:
- Regular Rice: MVR 12
- Thailand White Rice: MVR 53
- Red Rice: MVR 96
- Regular Basmati Rice: MVR 77
- Premium Basmati Rice: MVR 109
- Super Premium Basmati Rice: MVR 136
- Regular Flour: MVR 10
- Atta Flour: MVR 75
Zakat al-Fitr is an obligatory alms-giving required of every Muslim and is considered a fundamental pillar of the faith. It is traditionally paid in the form of the staple food commonly consumed by the individual, with the required amount being one ‘Saa’ (approximately the volume of four double-handfuls).
