
Statistics from the Ministry of Tourism show that more than half a million tourists visited the Maldives in the first nine days of this month. According to the latest Tourism Update Report released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, 51,952 tourists visited the Maldives during the first nine days of this month. This is a 16.6% increase compared to the 44,557 tourists who visited during the same period last year.
While the number of tourists visiting the Maldives has increased, 1.1 million tourists have visited the country so far this year. This is a 9.4% increase compared to the 1.0 million tourists who visited during the same period last year. Currently, an average of 5,772 tourists arrive in the Maldives daily. This number stood at 4,000 in the past two months. According to statistics, China is now the top source market for tourists visiting the Maldives.

- Russia – 134,356 tourists
- United Kingdom – 112,245 tourists

Statistics show that the highest percentage of tourists spent their holidays in resorts, accounting for 72.6%. The second highest percentage of tourists stayed in guesthouses, at 22.4%. Hotels rank third, with 2.8% of tourists choosing to stay there. The Ministry of Tourism aims to attract 2.3 million tourists to the Maldives this year. So far, 1.1 million tourists have arrived. The government states that with the opening of the new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport on the 26th of this month, there will be a significant increase in the number of tourists visiting the Maldives.
