The CEO highlighted the efforts made to operationalize Dharumavantha Hospital, which was developed with significant state investment. He noted that transforming Dharumavantha from a part of IGMH into a separate tertiary-level hospital, and upgrading both Dharumavantha and Hulhumalé Hospital to tertiary status, represents a positive change for the entire healthcare system.

CEO Ibrahim Abdurrazzaq Haleem stated that in addition to the work done to establish physical infrastructure in hospitals in the Malé area, significant efforts have been made to increase human resources. In this regard, over 500 employees have been added to hospitals in this area over the past year and a half, with the majority being medical professionals. “From November 17, 2023, we have recruited over 560 employees to the Malé City Group of Hospitals. Approximately 75% of these are medical staff, including medical officers, specialists, and nurses,” said CEO Abdurrazzaq Haleem.

CEO Ibrahim Abdurrazzaq Haleem said that with the efforts to improve the quality of services at the government’s main hospital IGMH and Dharumavantha Hospital, 194 beds have been added so far. He noted that the speed of service has also been improved, especially with the new surgical ward. Similarly, he highlighted that ICU, NICU, operation theater, and emergency ward have been added to Hulhumalé Hospital, increasing its capacity significantly.

IGMH and Dharumavantha Hospital currently provide about 32 specialist services. The CEO Ibrahim Abdurrazzaq Haleem stated that the goal of Malé City Group of Hospitals is to reduce the need for people to travel abroad for various medical treatments and to arrange for such treatments to be available in the Maldives. He noted that plans are currently being developed and work is being done towards this end.
