The Maldives Police Service has stated that as part of their ongoing efforts to remove abandoned vehicles causing inconvenience to the public on Malé’s streets, they have towed more than 200 vehicles in just one day. The Maldives Police Service said that during today’s operation to remove vehicles left unused for long periods and causing inconvenience to the public on Malé’s streets, a total of 208 vehicles were towed. This includes 168 two-wheeled vehicles and 40 four-wheeled vehicles.
Due to the large number of vehicles illegally parked on both sides of Malé’s streets, people using the roads face difficulties. The parking problem, which is increasing with the growing number of vehicles, is further exacerbated by these long-abandoned vehicles.

To address this issue, the Maldives Police Service, in collaboration with the Malé City Council and the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, is working to remove vehicles that have been left unused for long periods and are causing inconvenience to the public on Malé’s streets. The Police Service states that this is an effort to make Malé’s streets safe and comfortable for everyone.
Additionally, the Maldives Police Service is also carrying out operations to remove illegally parked vehicles in various areas of Hulhumalé.
