
The government has opened bids for resort development in Hankede, Addu City, and Nalandhoo, Shaviyani Atoll. In an announcement issued by the Ministry of Tourism, it was stated that under the regulations for leasing islands, land, and lagoons for tourism-related purposes, Hankede in Addu City is designated for the development of an integrated tourist resort. Accordingly, bids have been opened for the development of a resort with a minimum of 1000 beds. The Ministry requests parties interested in developing an integrated tourist resort in Hankede to contact the Ministry of Tourism via email for further information.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu decided to launch a new tourism project in Hankede, Addu City, on the first day of this month. To expedite the development of Hankede for tourism purposes, the Presidential decree dated 2 December 2021, which designated Hankede as an area for a government tourism real estate development project and leased it to the Maldives Fund Management Corporation, has been revoked. With this decision by the President, the Ministry of Tourism has been tasked with undertaking a new tourism project.
The Ministry of Tourism has opened bids for resort development in Shaviyani Atoll Nalandhoo, selecting it from among the islands designated for lease through a bidding process for tourism development. The opportunity to submit bids is open until 10:00 AM on the 12th of next month. The Ministry states that the bid book for this project will be available from the Ministry of Tourism’s reception starting next Tuesday until the 10th of next month.
