
Mohamed Latheef, President of the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) and Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM), has announced that the two Maldivian teams competing in the CAVA Men’s Champions League 2025 will have the opportunity to participate in the FIVB World Qualification. During a press briefing about the tournament, Latheef stated that this competition serves as a gateway to the FIVB World Qualification, with the champion team earning a spot in the AVC Champions League. He further revealed that the top team from that tournament would secure a place in volleyball’s most prestigious event, the FIVB World Championship.
“This tournament is very significant in CAVA’s history. Its importance stems from being included as a qualifying pathway for the FIVB World Qualification. Therefore, the champion of this CAVA Champions League qualifies for the AVC Champions League. And the champion of the AVC Champions League qualifies for the FIVB World Championship. This demonstrates the tournament’s significance,” Latheef explained. Consequently, he disclosed that the two Maldivian teams that have secured spots in this tournament, namely the Maldives National Defence Force Club Force Club and HDC, also have the opportunity to secure a place in the FIVB World Championship. Latheef expressed hope that both Maldivian teams would achieve good success in this tournament.
In addition to the Maldivian teams, four other teams will compete in this tournament: Nepal, Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan. Latheef noted that the participating teams are strong, with Kazakhstan, in particular, showcasing distinctive gameplay. The CAVA Men’s Champions League, scheduled from the 17th to the 23rd of this month, marks the second series of the club championship. While last year’s tournament was held in Nepal, this is the first year it is being conducted under the name CAVA Men’s Champions League.
The six-day tournament, taking place at the indoor hall of the Social Center, has already begun with participating teams arriving in the Maldives and startingd starting their practice sessions.
