It has been decided to open up for the development of additional resorts in HDh. and Th. atolls next month. This was announced by the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Tariq Ibrahim, while speaking on PSM News’ Raajje Miadhu program. The Minister said that currently there are only a few resorts operating in HDh. atoll and Th. atoll, and therefore, they will open up for the development of additional resorts in these two atolls from next month.
“This will create a favorable environment for investments in these atolls, which will attract more investors,” the Minister said. According to the Minister, while the Maldives’ tourism industry has completed 53 years, tourism has not expanded to all atolls of the Maldives to the most desirable extent, and the government is working to find solutions to this issue. In this regard, he highlighted that work is being done to create a separate master plan for each master plan for each atoll and to develop a marketing plan for tourism development in that atoll.
The Minister further stated that the newly amended Tourism Act will be an additional boost to expand the tourism sector in the future and increase the number of tourists visiting the Maldives. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is continuously working on numerous efforts to advance the tourism sector.
