Opening a Book of Condolences in Memory of M.U. Maniku

The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) has decided to open a book of condolences in memory of the late Mohamed Umar Maniku, M.U. Maniku, holder of the Nishan Muleeaage Sharafuge Izzath (Distinguished Honor of Muleeaage), who introduced tourism to the Maldives and made numerous contributions to the advancement of the industry. M.U. Maniku, who was also serving as the Chairman of MATI, passed away at the age of 78 on the 30th of last month while receiving treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore due to deteriorating health. The book of condolences in memory of the late Mohamed Umar Maniku will be opened on the 4th floor of the Fasmeeru Building, where MATI’s office is located. The public will also be able to sign this book.

Signing of the book of condolences will take place from the 7th to the 14th of this month. The book will be open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM every day except Friday. Mohamed Umar Maniku received the National Award of Recognition for Public Service in the tourism sector in 1982. He was also awarded the National Award of Honor in this field in 2002. Additionally, he received the Minivan 25 National Award for Public Service.

Furthermore, in recognition of Mohamed Umar Maniku’s work for the Maldivian state, nation, and people, he was conferred the Nishan Muleeaage Sharafuge Izzath (N.M.Sh.I) in 2011.
