The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has revealed that one in every 10 children at its clinics in Gaza is suffering from malnutrition. Malnutrition is a dangerous health condition caused by a lack of nutritious food. Since October 7, 2023, when the Zionists began their genocide against the people of Gaza, the blockade on Gaza has been tightened after March 2 this year. As a result, the entry of food and humanitarian aid has been obstructed, depriving Gaza’s children of nutritious food.
“Our health teams report that malnutrition is increasing in Gaza, especially since the blockade was tightened four months ago on March 2,” said UNRWA spokesperson Juliette Touma. She stated that UNRWA has assessed the health condition of 240,000 boys and girls under five years old since January 2024. Touma also noted that malnutrition was not a common condition in Gaza before the start of the Gaza genocide.
“A nurse I spoke to said that malnutrition was something they had only heard about in books and documentaries before. Medicines, nutritious supplies, hygiene items, and fuel are rapidly running out,” Touma said. After March 19, the Zionists have allowed a small amount of food to enter Gaza. However, this opportunity is only given to the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), an organization created in collaboration with the United States to bring the task of providing food to the 2.3 million people starving in Gaza under Zionist control. Consequently, the UN and international aid organizations have been sidelined.
