NSPA Provides 25 Million Rufiyaa in Medical Assistance Last Month

The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) statistics show that over 25 million rufiyaa was spent last June to assist those struggling with medical expenses. This expenditure was made through NSPA’s Medical Assistance Program. According to the statistics shared by NSPA, more than 25.8 million rufiyaa was spent in June as medical assistance. This includes 8.1 million rufiyaa for overseas treatment and 17.7 million rufiyaa for treatment within the Maldives.

NSPA has also shared details of how assistance was provided through the Medical Assistance Program to those facing difficulties with medical expenses in June. The statistics show that assistance was provided for a total of 1,173 cases across 22 types of diseases in June. Last June, NSPA spent the most on respiratory system diseases and vascular diseases. Accordingly, assistance was provided for 112 cases of respiratory system diseases and 111 cases of vascular diseases. The NSPA report shows that assistance was provided for 104 cases of bone diseases.

Other case numbers for which NSPA provided assistance in June:

• Obstetric diseases: 99 cases
• Cancer diseases: 99 cases
• Pediatric diseases: 78 cases
• Throat diseases: 72 cases
• Eye diseases: 72 cases
• Gastrointestinal diseases: 66 cases
• Kidney-related diseases: 63 cases
• Cardiovascular diseases: 45 cases
• Endocrine, gynecological, and psychiatric diseases: 38 cases each
• Hematological diseases: 26 cases
• Thalassemia: 10 cases
• Skin diseases: 24 cases
• Autoimmune diseases and hepatic diseases: 13 cases each
• Congenital disorders, dental treatment: 11 cases each
• Other diseases: 30 cases

NSPA has shared details of how assistance was provided through the Medical Assistance Program for inpatientpatient treatments received at private hospitals in the Maldives by those facing difficulties with medical expenses. Accordingly, a total of 6.5 million rufiyaa was spent on 468 cases from ADK and Treetop Hospitals. This includes 3.2 million rufiyaa for 187 cases from ADK and 3.3 million rufiyaa for 281 cases from Treetop Hospital. NSPA has spent a total of 2.3 million rufiyaa through the Medical Assistance Program to acquire equipment and machines needed for medical treatment.

Number of equipment and machines provided for medical treatment in June:

• 29 BiPAP machines and masks
• 24 hospital beds and air mattresses
• 17 hearing aids
• 14 wheelchairs
• 11 oxygen concentrators
• 9 CPAP machines
• 3 electric wheelchairs
• 2 walkers
• 17 other equipment

NSPA continues to run various programs to provide financial assistance to those in need for different purposes. These include the Medical Assistance Program, Financial Assistance Program for Persons with Disabilities, Financial Assistance Program for single parents living in poverty who are raising children, Assistance Program for children living in poverty without parental support and their caregivers, Financial Assistance Program for food purchases for those living in poverty, and the Social Health Insurance Scheme.
