North Korea has declared that it has no intention of giving up its nuclear weapons. This statement was revealed by North Korea’s state media KCNA, citing the country’s mission to the United Nations (UN). The mission stated that North Korea will remain a nuclear power and will not accept the United States’ efforts to end its nuclear program. The North Korean mission to the UN and other international organizations said that the country has enshrined its status as a nuclear power in its laws, and this decision is irreversible.
Furthermore, the North Korean mission stated that they view the United States’ efforts to halt North Korea’s nuclear program and eliminate its nuclear weapons as an attempt to interfere with or influence their internal affairs. The United States considers North Korea’s nuclear program to be in violation of international law. North Korea believes that its greatest enemy and the biggest threat to the country is the United States. According to the North Korean government, they were compelled to develop a nuclear program and produce nuclear weapons due to the threat posed by the United States. North Korea also claims that this program is intended to deter the United States from launching a nuclear attack.
The United States continues to engage in many activities that North Korea perceives as threatening. These include conducting military exercises with Japan and South Korea, which North Korea characterizes as preparations for invading and colonizing their country. Additionally, US nuclear-capable military aircraft and submarines continue to operate and conduct missions in the Korean Peninsula region.
