President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has clarified that the government has no intentions to ban sheesha, introduce a sugar tax, or remove existing sugar subsidies. Speaking at a campaign event last night, the President emphasized that the administration’s core policy is not to impose further bans, but rather to focus on raising public awareness regarding health risks. While the decision to ban vaping has been made, the President noted that issues deeply rooted in local lifestyle and traditions cannot be resolved through prohibitions alone. Instead, he highlighted the importance of a systemic approach to encourage healthier choices. Furthermore, the President stated that rather than increasing the cost of sugar, the government aims to facilitate easier access to affordable fruits and vegetables. This assurance was provided to address public concerns following recent remarks made by the Health Minister.
