
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that there are no challenges in importing fuel and essential food supplies to the Maldives. The President made these remarks during a press conference regarding the measures being taken by the government in response to the current situation in the Middle East.
To assess the impact of the Middle East conflicts on the Maldives and to take prompt action, the President has established a special ministerial committee. Speaking at the press conference, the President noted that the committee is monitoring all relevant sectors, including the well-being of Maldivians and students residing abroad.
The President further emphasized that potential economic challenges are being closely monitored, affirming that there is currently no shortage of fuel or food supplies. “By the grace of Allah, we do not have any concerns regarding fuel. Our arrangements are well-established. There is no reason to worry about fuel availability in the coming days. There is no issue with fuel, nor is there any issue regarding food supplies,” the President said.
Furthermore, the President highlighted that efforts are underway to mitigate the economic impact of the situation. Acknowledging the potential influence on the Maldives’ tourism industry, he stated that measures are being taken to minimize these effects. In this regard, arrangements are being made to facilitate alternative routes for flights transiting through the Middle East. He noted that discussions are ongoing with airlines and agents, and some flights have already begun operating through alternative arrangements. Additionally, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that the government is working to secure alternative flight options for tourists currently unable to depart from the Maldives.
