No danger for tennis team, now practicing with Jordan team

The Tennis Association has stated that the internal situation in Amman, the capital of Jordan, has stabilized, and the Maldivian tennis team players are safe and in high spirits. An official from the Tennis Association told PSM News that although sirens can be heard at times in Amman at the moment, there is no danger, and all players are doing well and are in a safe location. The official also said that the Tennis Association is monitoring the players’ condition and providing for their needs.

The Maldivian tennis team departed for Jordan on the 12th of this month to compete in the Billie Jean King Cup, with a strong determination to qualify for the second round.

However, due to the outbreak of war between Israel and Iran, the tournament could not be held. The Tennis Association said that this tournament has now been canceled, and as a result, the Maldivian team is conducting practice sessions in Jordan. The official stated that the players who went for the Billie Jean King Cup are currently holding practice sessions with the Jordanian national team.

Although the return of the Maldivian team to Male’ was delayed due to flight cancellations following the closure of Jordanian airspace because of the war, the Association says that according to current arrangements, they will be able to return to Male’ on the 21st of this month.

The official website of the Billie Jean King Cup states that the tournament has been postponed due to significant disruptions to travel in Jordan caused by the current security situation. They will also explore the possibility of rescheduling the tournament.

The Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Sports, and the Maldives Olympic Committee are closely monitoring the situation of the Maldivian junior tennis team. These three institutions are providing necessary assistance to the team. The team that went to Jordan includes Aara Asaal Aazim, Naba Nishan, Nayaara Usama Ali, and Aishath Karin Saizan.
