The newly established government entity, “State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply,” has officially begun importing and distributing medicines across the Maldivian islands. Minister of Health, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, stated that the company was founded to prioritize the procurement of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment. While these operations were previously managed by STC (State Trading Organization), the management of island pharmacies has now been transitioned to this new company. The Minister highlighted that this strategic shift is expected to resolve existing shortages and enhance the efficiency of medical supply services. The government anticipates that this initiative will provide a sustainable solution to the challenges faced by private importers and the fluctuations in medicine prices.
