Following a month-long break, the new academic year officially commenced today, marking the return to a January start for the first time in several years. More than 77,000 students are enrolled across 218 government schools this year, including 4,790 students newly admitted to Grade 1.
To facilitate the educational process, 10,500 teachers have been deployed across the country. Additionally, a newly established school in Hulhumalé Phase 2 has officially opened its doors to students today. The Ministry of Education has ensured that all necessary preparations, including the distribution of textbooks, teacher recruitment, and essential school renovations, were completed ahead of the opening.
According to the academic calendar, schools will remain closed for a significant portion of the upcoming holy month of Ramadan. This academic year is scheduled to conclude on December 18, followed by the annual long vacation.
