President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the national pulse beating in Maldivians’ bodies reminds us to learn from the determination and courage of national heroes.

The President made this statement in a post shared on social media while extending his greetings for this year’s National Day.

In his social media post, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that as 466 years have passed since the victory and success of Boduthakurufaanu’s valuable national jihad, the memories and the honor and glory he achieved still remain fresh in the hearts of Maldivians. The President added that the national pulse beating in Maldivians’ bodies always reminds us to learn from the determination and courage of the precious heroes who fought for the rights of this nation.

The President said that he extends National Day greetings to the Maldivian people while renewing the resolve that Maldivians will always remain a people who love their country and maintain their nationality and independence.

The Maldives celebrates National Day in connection with the day As-Sultan Ghazi Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al-Auzam Siri Savaadheetha Mahaaradun liberated the country from Portuguese subjugation. That day corresponds to the first day of Rabi’ al-Awwal in the year 981 of the Hijri calendar.

The government has decided to conduct vibrant activities to mark this year’s National Day as well. Accordingly, this year’s official National Day ceremony will be held in H.A. Utheemu, the birthplace of National Day hero Muhammad Thakurufaanu. The National Day ceremony will include the presentation of the National Award of Honor and the National Award of Recognition.
