Muntagim: We will work as a team to achieve MOC President’s goals

Ahmed Muntagim (Munthey), Vice President of the Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC), has stated that they will work as a team to achieve the President’s goals. Speaking at the first press conference after being elected as Vice President for the upcoming term, Muntagim said that the Vice Presidents will not have separate targets, but will work as a team. Muntagim and Ahmed Ismail have been elected as Vice Presidents for the new term of MOC, while they also held the same positions in the previous term. Muntagim said that the Vice Presidents will give their full support to President Mohamed Abdulsattar (Champy), and the newly elected executive committee will prioritize hosting an international event in the Maldives this year, as well as exploring the possibility of qualifying more Maldivian sports for the Olympics and Indian Ocean Island Games.

Additionally, they aim to strengthen elite athlete training programs to achieve higher rankings in major international competitions. They also plan to assist some sports associations in the Maldives with financial difficulties and management issues, including help with preparing annual reports and audits. The MOC will also establish necessary committees, cooperate with the Ministry of Sports, and support the National Sports Council. Furthermore, they will focus on establishing sports facilities in the Maldives and providing appropriate training opportunities for athletes. The MOC states that improving the management of sports associations will be one of the main priorities during this term.

Muntagim, who contested for the Vice President position from the Chess Association for the 2025-2029 term, was elected with 12 votes. His opponent, Mustafa Mohamed (Musto), President of the Athletics Association, received 3 votes, while Ahmed, who was also elected as Vice President, received 15 votes.
