MTCC Contracted to Develop Volleyball Court and Futsal Field in R. Kinolhas

The government has contracted Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Limited (MTCC) to develop the to develop the volleyball court and futsal field in R. Kinolhas. The agreement was signed on behalf of the government by Ibrahim Niyaz, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment. Ahmed Shareef Abdurrahman Yoosuf, Deputy Managing Director of MTCC, signed on behalf of the company. The volleyball court project in Kinolhas, contracted to MTCC, is budgeted at 1.24 million rufiyaa from the government budget and is scheduled to be completed within 120 days. The project includes concrete concrete work, wall construction, and turf laying for the volleyball court.

The futsal field development project, also contracted to MTCC for 1.74 million rufiyaa and set to be completed within 120 days, involves wall construction, concrete work, and turf laying. R. Kinolhas, with a population of 691 people, currently has a futsal field that has been in use since 2015. The existing field has deteriorated over time, and the volleyball court, jointly built by the youth and the council, also needs renovation, according to Ahmed Husain, President of R. Kinolhas Council, who provided this information to PSM News.

“The island is currently using a futsal field built in 2015. It’s a very small field and is now quite damaged. Additionally, the youth and the council jointly built a volleyball court, which also now needs repairs,” said Ahmed. He noted that with this sports development, the island’s youth will be very pleased, emphasizing that Kinolhas is home to sports-loving citizens. He also mentioned that a significant portion of the island’s population actively participates in sports.

R. Kinolhas won the championship in the 2020 Atoll Handball Tournament. The island has also claimed victory in the R. Atoll Volleyball Tournament, and their futsal teams have been achieving notable successes. Furthermore, Ahmed highlighted that some of the island’s youth are part of the national volleyball team, and they are also making strides in football.
