The development of the harbor in Kanditheemu, Shaviyani Atoll, has been awarded to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). This project was handed over to MTCC during a ceremony held to meet with the residents of Kanditheemu as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing tour of Shaviyani Atoll islands. The agreement was signed on behalf of the government by State Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Hassan Rasheed, while MTCC was represented by its Managing Director Ahmed Saudee.

The project includes dredging 76,705.85 cubic meters of harbor and channel area, construction of a 212-meter quay wall, installation of a 150-meter groyne, and building a 544-meter breakwater. Additionally, it involves laying 342 meters of revetment, paving 1332 square meters, and installing harbor lights. MTCC has been contracted to complete this 84.12 million rufiyaa project within 380 days.

Kanditheemu, with a population of 1700, is an island that relies on fishing and tourism. The harbor, which is also used by people from other islands in the atoll for various purposes, will, upon completion of this project, provide a solution to the difficulties in berthing and departing, as well as offer ample space for unloading cargo.
